Hi I just installed mandrake 8.1, it's really cool, but i'd really like LILO at boot time. I'm a newbie, so can someone take time out to tell me:
1. How to tell if it was installed
2. How to install it if it wasn't or how to make it work if it was installed.
thanks,
jules

Hello my friend, I'm using Mandrake 8.1 right now and maybe I could help you out. If you want to setup LILO or GRUB then do this.
1. Start Mandrake Control Center
2. Go to Boot>Boot Config
3. Click the button at the top for setting up LILO/GRUB.
Let me know if that help you any and also I'll like to welcome you to the Linux community. :)
P.S: If you are a newbie take time out to look at the Mandrake Control Center. As a Linux user for 2 years I learn to love it. :)
Aurora as nothing to do with LiLo or any other bootloader.
Under KDE Control panel their i option that let disable aurora.
Their a check boxed with Aurora by it.
Do not recall exactly where but think boot section.
Regards,
Alex :)

Also, if you'd like, you can use the software manager to uninstall Aurora. Personally, I'm not real fond of it so I just uninstalled it.

hi all,
Thanks for the replies! I checked out the control panel's boot section and it's configured to launch lilo graphical menu on /dev/hde6 (this is my correct linux ext2 partition). It also says aurora should be functionnal also.
Sorry for my confusing title with lilo/aurora. My problem i guess is for both.
Right now, I need a boot disk to boot into mandrake 8.1 (and aurora/lilo both don't work). I want to eventually bootstrap the linux boot sector to use it in Win2000 's boot loader. I've heard this is possible, I think just need to get lilo to work at boot and then i can extract the boot sector.
thanks,
jules

ok, this is what i've done; boot lilo from floppy. On the next reboot, aurora worked, lilo also. I made the bootsector file, but then i wanted to reboot into linux using my floppy and couldn't, it printed "LIL- " on the screen (at boottime) and didn't go further. Why is this?? I had to reinstall, unfortunatly....someone help please, thanks.
