Does anyone know how to forge ACPO (the files that control the ads) files in Opera?
Just replacing the URLs in the files doesn't seem to work.

You should go to one of those software cracking sites. netfox39 04-15-2002, 12:12 AM It is just my curiosity! If I didn't want any ads I would block the 4 ip addresses I caught opera contacting when I started it up. Saptech 04-15-2002, 07:03 AM If you like Opera so much, why don't you just buy it, that will get rid of the Ads! :D Manish 04-15-2002, 07:25 AM Originally posted by slapNUT: You should quickly delete this post before a moderator sees it and gives you the lecture about using this forum for illegal actions. I told them I don't use Windows and wanted to register my Linux version. They said they would give me a discount to register my Linux version  YaRness 04-15-2002, 12:03 PM feck, like i'd pay three times (2 work locations and home) for something (a browser) that i can get free. once maybe, if i decide i like the product enough, but thrice? <MKIII> Are you stuck on stupid? </MKIII> netfox39 04-15-2002, 12:16 PM Originally posted by YaRness: <STRONG>all i ever see is the banner that says "click here to buy the FASTEST browser on earth!"</STRONG> /usr/share/opera/images/operabanner.png by any chance :D it is quiet replacable if you want something else there. I would list the 4 ip addresses you need to block opera from, but then the HALs will get really mad. I just blocked them in the outgoing portion of iptables and no ads, wow! YaRness 04-15-2002, 12:56 PM oh brother. that's "C:\Program Files\Opera\Images\banner.png" for the windows folks. time to play... mcmanus69 04-15-2002, 01:07 PM LoL, it's funny, tho... 'cuz they didn't mind when others told me the servers to block in /etc/hosts to get rid of LNO's own banners... ;) I will hafta try that trick with Opera. The banners just take up way too much space. I think I will buy it, tho, when a final release version is out (no more beta tech. for me...) YaRness 04-15-2002, 01:38 PM Originally posted by mcmanus69: <STRONG>LoL, it's funny, tho... Frith 04-15-2002, 01:40 PM If you don't want to see the ads, just use Mozilla. 1.0 is going to be released soon and 0.9.9 is incredibly stable and it works well in everyday usage. Instead of cracking commercial software, why don't you guys just use free software that costs, well, $0, and doesn't require any hacking to make it work the way you want it to? While I don't exactly agree with everything the capitalists do, breaking the law to stick it to them isn't good either. OPERA SOFTWARE AS OR ITS SUPPLIERS DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE FUNCTIONS OF THE SOFTWARE WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR FREE. With showing images only on main bar, the status bar is put under the buttons, so it's the same size as the adbar, so I lose no screen!! :) [ 15 April 2002: Message edited by: Timothy L. Miller ] netfox39 04-15-2002, 03:13 PM Opera ad servers These first two it contacts when you start Opera for the first time ever, they correspond to rgs1.net and rgs2.net respectively 209.73.225.8 209.10.17.134 The next two are the ones it contacts for ads they are cms1.net and cms2.net 209.73.225.7 209.10.17.133 Personally I block them like this: iptables -A OUTPUT -d <foo> -j DROP slapNUT 04-15-2002, 10:04 PM Well I don't know if this violates any LNO ethics rules. Apparently no one cares if it does. I think were all on our own here for the most part. Thanks for the IP's I'll be blocking them adds shortly... afterall I paid for that browser and still have to look at them blasted adds. justlinux.com
