windows has installed over lilo .. i there an image of a disk somewhere that i can get to just boot up linux again and write lilo back on my drive???

I dunno about that, but this is a good example of why its a good idea to NOT install lilo in the mbr.

A better way is to install lilo to whatever your / partition is (I'm assuming it won't be the first partition on the hard drive), and simply make that the active partition using fdisk. That way windows won't ever have to overwrite lilo.

You mean to say you never created a emergency Linux bootdisk just for situations as this? Always a good idea to have a proven tested bootdisk.

You can use the install cd. At the prompt, enter

boot root=/dev/hda#

Where # is of course your Linux boot partition.

You can also get a bootdisk from www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com)
