linux on a laptop

What distro and version would one suggest I install on a 133 mhz laptop with 16 megs of ram? it's really crawling trying the windows 98, and I wasn't sure if linux would be much better...thanks for your help!

I suggest debian you can get a real slim down install (just install the essentials)
