Problems with adding Themes in Gnome 2.4

I have had no success in adding icon themes to Gnome 2.4. When I select the file to install via the Theme manager it fails to show up as a selection.

Any advice?

Hmmmm....well I just drag the TAR file into the theme manger, close it, open it again, and the file should install properly.

yeah for some reason i suffer from the same thing. i install new one using the browse button and then have to close evrything and reopen for the new theme to appear.

alternatively you can go into ~/.themes/ and unpack the them there. it should show up if you open the theme selector later.

I did as you suggest and icons or themes do sometimes appear but not all of them.
