Hi all,

Wondering if somebody could please help or offer suggestions with the following prob. Been using Mandrake on my PC for a little while and recently installed 9.2 on a rather old laptop.

Everything is working ok. However the best that I can do with the video output is 16 bit, the card (as displayed under hardware listing) is :

Trident: TGUI 9660/968x/968x

Currently using the generic TGUI9660 driver. My question is - is this the best that I'm going to be able to get with this particular card ? Been searching for a while and I can't seem to find that much info, I think it's got something like 2meg of memory - was hoping to take it up to 24 bit, if it's possible :)

Many thanks for any advice or help,

Jon

The highest depth you can achieve with 2 MB of ram on a vid card is 16 bit color...I'm at least pretty sure of that. It's a limitation in the number of bits availible to render it.

I don't know the math exactly, but that's what i've understood for a long time. 4 MB should get you 24 bit.

Thanks for the reply,

I've been searching a bit more and yep it is the memory - just got so used to tweaking drivers and stuff, suppose I didn't look at the card specs too closely !
