Advice:
Ditch RedHat 7.2
Buy lots more coke

But seriously, what mail server are you gonna work on? The more info you give us, the more we can help.

We're doing this for fun. We have a Sdsl connection at his martial arts studio and a few extra computers. We know we want a mail server and we know we want it to be a linux box. We dont know much more. We're all very computer literate, but not with linux.

Red Hat usaly comes with ipop3d(Imap package) you could this as you pop3 server software.
Qpopper from eudora is also an option.

RH default mta (smtp) is sendmail but can also use Postfix.

If give us more info you may get more help.
The information you have given helps but not a whole lot.

Alex :)

:( :( :(

Damn I knew the last time all the LNO volunteers asked for a raise, we should have given them one.

www.sendmail.org (http://www.sendmail.org) and the massive amount of documentation they have there.

Google search? setup mailserver

Ok, everyone said to dump RH 7.2 and use either Debian or Slack. I went to both sites and the Slack seems to be more comprehensive and a better layout. They even have the handly slackware book online. Debian seems like it has less going on. Any suggestions about this?

If you are just looking to setup a mailserver, then most distros will suffice as they all come with Sendmail and other MTA's.

You could try Caldera OpenLinux Server 3.1 and use the included Webmin ( www.webmin.com/webmin (http://www.webmin.com/webmin) ) to setup and configure Sendmail.
