I´m using 2 ethernet cards in my RedHat 6.2 box. One is for the external lan with dhcp and the other connects directly to another server running Redhat 6.2 with the same configuration (2 ethernet).
On the card that handles the direct connection I´ve put manual ip 192.168.0.1 for one and 192.168.0.2 for the other. But I can´t píng. When I ping one machine from the other only one request returns, and sometimes more requests return, but with very HIGH time values (something like 3 seconds). I´m using a correct cable and there is no problems in the cards either. (I´ve tested the cable and the cards in other machines) What the hell could be going wrong??
Thanks in advance for any help.

You have 2 Redhat boxes both with 2 ethernet cards.

One is setup with 192.168.01 which connects to the external lan (cablemodem or whatever?) and the other is for internal - 192.168.0.2

Do you have the correct netmask and broadcast addresses configured?

What are the ip addresses of the other Redhat box and what is the second nic attached to? The first as you said is connected to 'the other - 192.168.0.2' on the first.
