Hey,
I need your help on getting a nVidia grapics card. I would like to know what nVidia graphics card would you recommend for me to get that's 128MB?

The reason why I ask is because I want to get rid of my crap ATI Radeon 9000 due to the damn drivers which are difficult to install. I also want it to play UT 2k3, Quake 3, and so on.

Please help?

Thanks

Geforce TI's are nice

stay away from the Geforce4 MX series i've experienced bad perfomance on my PC my firends my other friends (all different cards from different manufacturors)

Geforce FX and Ti are the top ones. splash out and look forward to Doom3

What do you think of the GeForce FX 5200?

I'm looking towards Doom 3 and UT 2k4.

i just know that the MX series is bad, any others are fine, do some research look for problems people have had with the card you want.

I was doing some research and the complaints was that it's slow; all Microsoft users.

the MX cards are "dumbed down" a GeForce3 actually performs better than a Geforce4 MX due to some chip constraints. Granted it has been nearly 2 years since I saw the GF4 review on TechTV, but my memory is still kinda working.

Pity they never thought to do a driver up date:rolleyes: I have an MX card and it was terrible until i went to the nvidia website and downloaded the newest drivers.

honestly, I have an MX card with up to date drivers in one machine, and it still terrible.

fx 5200 is a terrible card (sorry if anyone owns one). i was looking at vid cards myself recently, and the fx 5200 actually scored lower than some geforce4 mx cards. yikes. the 5600 and the 5800 look good, but are pricey right now. a g4 might be the place to look for a balance of price and performance.

me - i still have a G3 TI card, and it plays my CS and Quake with ease :cool: Santa is bringing me a newer card soon (i hope)

I'd have to concur with you there. Back when they were first released, some guy over on NVNews' Linux forum did some *extremely* unofficial benchmarks (basically, he ran glxgears for a few minutes on a lightly-loaded system...) with an FX5200, and it actually scored lower than the GF3 Ti200 that he had been using before.

I've got a Ti4200 (about a year old). It works all right, but I don't think it'd handle Doom 3. We shall see...

according to ID doom will work on a "Geforce" card minimum, so they were not very helpful, but i'm sure a small card like a Geforce4 MX440 should be able to handle it on minimum detail when combined with an AMD Athlon XP 2600 (2GHz). although i could do with a RAM upgrade.

I have a Geforce Ti500 that I bought last year (Thnx to JL members for pointing out that it was a great card :))

Runs Quake3 at 140fps, Runs ArmyOPS, runs UT, runs ut2003. It's ran every game great so far except for BF1942 which I think is a windows problem as my brothers GF4MX460 can play it.

viperlin....I have a Geforce4 MX440, running on an AMD 2500 with 512 RAM..runs fine on any number of game that I play either in Linux or in Windoz...I have no doubt that there are better cards, but Doom and StarCraft run fine! And, since I am here.......4150 bogomips on the stock chip with no overclocking! Ok, wrong forum..but hey, I am here!! :D

I was happy with my riva tnt2 :p

I actually played some ut and quake 1-3 with it. ut and q3 didn't have the best frame rates, but it was a 550mhz cpu in the first place.

Just remember that you don't need the newest hardware... A year or two old works fine :)

yes but the quality of the cards is low, you can get similar refresh rates with a lot lower cards.

What about the Ultra ver. of the FX 5200? Is the Ultra ver. faster or it makes no difference?

How is the FX 5600? I'm looking into that gc in eBay. The 256MB ver. is like $149.99. What do you guys think?

i'm thinking "f*cking dollar, get a decent currancy (aka mine ;), and yes i know the pchycology of ownership superiority so don't have a go at me about it)"

do some research on the price and such after deciding on the card model.

how is it our fault, you pretty much ignore us and we use the metric system, it's your governments problem (a small amnount of the people are fine it's just the government and the general public, you know the type)

and i'm gonna point something out on selective racism.
Brittish = brit
american = yank
austrailian = ozzie
pakistinian = paki

now how come one of them is considered racist? ;-) (none of them should be)

I tried the FX 5200 and UT2k3 ran great. Same with Quake 3. Now if only I can get the sound to work in Quake 3.......

I did some searching on eBay and there is little TI's, though the FX 5600 (256MB) has caught my attention especially for the price since around my area it's around $200+.
I hope I can play Doom 3 with it........

i just bought the FX5700 Ultra today and love it (for a midrange card). It's only a 128MB card but in comparisons that i have read with other midrange cards it takes the prize. And best of all is that Nvidia (with the new chipset NV36 that this card has) seems to be getting their problems down and will soon overtake ATI again.

here's a good comparison article for ya:

I've used Nvidia cards since the Riva128 and I have been happy with all of them, though the TNT2 M64 was evil and slow. My Current gforce 2/4 MX cards work fine for my needs.

I have a Geforce4 MX440, running on an AMD 2500 with 512 RAM..runs fine on any number of game that I play either in Linux or in Windoz...I have no doubt that there are better cards, but Doom and StarCraft run fine! I concur, but I run everything at 16bit (64k) AND 1024X768 max
