I've been thinking about grabing a controller for some old school gaming with zsnes mupen64 and epsxe, but I dunno which ones are well supported and hold decent quality at the same time. I'm thinking usb would probably be the best, but I dont know beyond that
any reccomendations?
thx

I had an USB Interact Hammerhead FX and didn't have any major problems using it in Linux.
Make sure you know how the controller works, though. One of the things that bit me in the *** with the Hammerhead was that the D-Pad was, by default, a hat switch, and I had to manually set it to X-Y in order to use it in emulators. I was never able to do this in Linux, and since Interact has dissapeared off the face of the earth, I can no longer do it in Windows. My gamepad is all but useless now.

I use a gravis gamepad pro controller with snes & tuxnes & the only problem is that some of the buttons aren't mapped the same from game to game, but that can be changed in the config files. Love those older FRP's & couldn't do without them for long :)
Edit: My controller is a USB type - cheap at walmart or nearly anywhere else.
