I want to dwnld a distro

This may be a very newbie question, but I've always droped the $30 for the book and CD. What are all the files I need to get to make an iso, or an install CD. There are always so many folders and files on the ftp sites. I would like to finally get it straight...

www.linuxiso.org. (http://www.linuxiso.org.) You can download an iso image of different distros there and they have a section covering different O/S's and programs to use and how to burn them to a bootable CD.
