I'm a bit new to Linux and I was working on my newly installed debian 2.2 system.. went to install gnome using their online install script.. and everything seemed to be working okay.. but when I tried to boot up the system the next morning..

1) LILO broke (and no /etc/lilo.conf file either, was able to fix)
2) GDM was installed.. and had to remove it (don't know if I fixed this completely or not.. but just trashed the GDM startup script in rc.5 I think)
3) No internet connection.. don't know if it's because my ethernet is broken or if my dhcp doesn't work anymore

Anyhow, I was wondering if any of you knew if these problems were related to installing Gnome or if it's something else. Also, I could go about fixing them using my best guesses, but any pointers would be appreciated. I'm not very familiar with the bootup process at all. Thanks,

-R

Also, I'm running XFree86 4.0.2 and whatever latest public release of Gnome there is.

I don't think it was gnome that broke lilo.
Installing gnome doesn't do anything to lilo, nor your internet connection.
