At the installation when I try to install tulip.o it says:

----------

/lib/modules/2.2.18pre21/net/tulip.o: int module: Device or resource busy

Hint: this error can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ paramerters

/lib/modules/2.2.18pre21/net/tulip.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.2.18pre21/net/tulip.o failed

/lib/modules/2.2.18pre21/net/tulip.o: insmod tulip failed

Installation failed

-------------

Exactly what is says... now what should I do (If no one replys, I guess I'll just mess around with my IRQs)

Thanx guys

I had this same kind of thing with my soundcard. Ended up having to pass parmeaters to it. If you have windows check for the settings and then do a modprobe tulip and pass the parmeters and see if that does it. If not it is beyond the little I know. You can check the /proc/interrupts to find out what is using each IRQ and see if you can unload something else.

Funny, that's just what I was going to suggest ;)

If it is a linksys card you probably have to compile the driver from source. Check out the NHF.

we could use alittle more info...... like maybe what distro , what card , you know unimportant stuff like that.

It is an AOpen NIC /w Debian

(I'm gonna start messing with the IRQs now, wish me luck)

Well then... the IRQs crap didn't work. When I tried to configure it (in windows... rightclick on my comp, device manager etc.) I took if off the automatic configuration and tried to change it but said that 'the resource setting cannot be modified)

Any Ideas???

Have you disabled Plug-N-Play in your Linux box's BIOS?

An AOpen nic. ..well, what kind of Aopen Nic. ..in Windows, what type of drivers does it use? Is it a fast 10/100 card? Have you tried getting information about your card on the Acer/Aopen website?. ..chances are, they don't provide any Linux support. You need to tell us the model number of the card; someone belonging to this BBS may have one and can infrom you as to which module it requires. Are you absolutely sure it uses the Tulip mod.? LOL, I know what it feels like; I have a second NIC in my machine that I cannot seem to get working under Linux. It's one of those damn Windows supported DLink DFE-538tx 10/100 cards. Since my machine is the one that provides "net " access to my wife's computer, I can only use Linux if she doesn't need to be on-line. Else, I have to stay put in Windows Me or NT5 ( Win2K)

I had the identical problem with my LNE100TX card when I tried to use the tulip.o driver that came with Slackware 7.1. The solution was to install the netdrivers directory from the floppy that came with the card, in which process you compile a new set of drivers, or you could download the source and compile the directory. Then you just replace tulip.o with new one. Also, if your card works the same as mine, you need pci-scan.o too. ;) web page (http://www.geocities.com/jaygee432)

Things will be better in the future than in the pasture.

Even when I tried my other NIC that works fine in my old comp it didn't work... fusk!!! Yeah and I'm sure it does use tulip.o and I'm screwed... oh well. Someday I may figure it out and anyway tomorrow I'm getting FreeBSD so we'll see what happens with that and if I still have problems, well then... guess I'm stuck with Windows :(

Turn OFF PNP aware OS in your system BIOS.

I'll rephrase that since it's been suggested twice.

Have you disabled PnP OS in the BIOS?
