I just installed Debian 2.2.2 and I have tried several combination in xf86config to get X windows to work but have had no luck, any suggestions?
My system is ASUS P5A 400Mhz AMD, CTX 1451GM monitor, ATI 98Xpert Rage Pro video adapter.

Try using XF86Setup

add this to your sources.list

deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian woody main contrib non-free

then issue this command as root:

apt-get install task-x-window-system

XF86Setup did the trick. Thanks all. Now to fumble around some more!
