You generally burn an ISO onto a CD ... it's a filesystem.

You burn an ISO to a cd-r and then it works just like any regular cd would work. To install, you insert the cd and run the setup or install or whatever program on it. What cd recording software do you use?

Cdrecord rules all! And there are many frontends for it that include XCDRoast, Gcombuster, Gnome-Toaster,...

But I prefer just regular ol command line cdrecord. Works great.
