I am a veerryy new Linux user and I am trying to setup my first linux system. I am using Mandrake 9.2 and it is being installed on a homebuilt pc that is an: Intel 2.4G pc, on an ASUS board with 256M ram. I have (2) two hd in the system and already have XP installed on the first hd. I installed linux on the second hd. The problem I'm having is the gui screen doen't seem to be working or set correctly. During the setup of the video card-a GForce4/64m- ok, I set it at 800 x 600 and 16 colors it didn't seem to find it or recognize it. I tried using differnt settings but none seemed to work.
Any ideas?

I would suggest you to download the nVidia's linux driver and install it.

Selecting the "vesa" driver should also fix your immediate problem until you get the nVidia driver installed.

If you're not going to do any HW accellerated 3D gaming/apps, the vesa driver are sufficient.

Cheers :)

I went to the link for downloading the Nvidia driver, but when I click on it it shows me text instead of down loading anything. I don't think I have the wrong link, as it takes me to the download page on Nvidia, but I don't know why it shows as text, is this normal and am I supposed to use this info. Remember I'm new to this.

have you tried to right click on 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run' and select the 'save' option?
