Im using Mandrake 7.2, and all of the sudden it stops booting to the GUI, like I had it do, ok I will just login from the command line and type startx. Well I did that and my computer just kind of sat there and made some noise, and did nothing. So I to go read a book and about 5 minutes later, I hear some more noise and I look over and X is starting??? Why the heck did that take 5 minutes??

Then something happened that pissed me off even more. I click the terminal window to bring up the cl in KDE, then I get the thing on the bottom of the screen that has a disc spinning and says terminal. It does this for about a minute then disappears, no cl no nothing.

Anybody know why this is happening is my Linux meesed up?? I dont know because it used to work fine.

Thanks for any help.

try running fsck

I know on mine that every so many boots it does a thorough filesystem check which makes it take a few extra minutes to boot to KDE.

Do you remember making any major changes prior to this happening?

As suggested, do a fsck.
