I've been using Linux on and off for two years. This is why "on-and-off":

I've instaled drake 8.1 for the third time today. Upon attempting to change Windows Managers from Gnome to Enlight. or Enlight. to Gnome something happens each time so that it seems to crach or something. Now no matter what I do KDE starts. No, I do not have an .xinitrc file in my home directory (I did with the last two installs - go figure). When I did edit that file, once again only KDE started. When I run commands like "WINDOWMANAGER=enlightenment; startx" KDE starts. I hate KDE - it reminds me of Windows, which is what I don't want. I want to learn the more sophisitcated Linux.

Is there a way I can NOT install KDE and only the other Window Managers? When I did an expert install I unchecked the entire KDE section but it still installed.

Thanks.

Well, the thing that loads up at the beginning - (the graphical login screen) IS KDE, but, it's only allowing you to head to Gnome or Enlight or whatever. But...that's just Mandrake's way of making things easier. If you are actually booting into KDE, then make sure that, when you install the system, you deselect KDE as one of the Windows manager when you are given the option of what packages to install.

you could do that, or you could install kde (just in case you change your mind :) ) and then when it asks you: Select a default boot method, click no.
