Hello everyone, I thought this was interesting..

At rpmfind.net Connectiva has posted an rpm based apt-get utility for rpm based distros. I havn't tried it yet, but I'm gonna when I get home.

I always hear how great it is in debian, so I will try to put it to use with my SusE...
Wish me luck and I'll let you know.

and if this is in the wrong forum...sorry

Yeah, apt-get for rpms is pretty new. There isnt that many pakages available yet compared to *.deb stuff. But its getting there.

shouldn't I be able to specify where its going to get the rpms?? I could just tell it to look for stuff on SuSE's ftp and it'll find 'em, or am I way off base with this...

Yeah, you're a little off base. :)
There are package repositories that apt will be able to use. Essentially, there are "apt friendly" ftp sites where you can use it.
Of course, Conectiva has one since it's spearheading the apt-for-rpm effort. I know one can do it with redhat, too. I just don't know where those sites are as I use debian.
I would describe more thoroughly but I need to get back to work... just wanted to let you know you can't use just any ol' ftp or http site that has rpms on it. There's a sort of "map" of the packages that apt needs to read before it knows how to and where to get the appropriate packages.
