I kinda asked this question in my thread below but don't think it will be read.

As a little recap, I have Telocity DSL connected to a Linksys 4 port router/hub which is connected to 2 machines:

1. 800Mhz RedHat 7.2 machine (192.168.1.100)
2. 500Mhz Windows ME machine (192.168.1.101)

I tried to set up my RH7.2 machine to host a web page.

First of all I turned off dhcp on the router and set it to forward port 80 to my Linux machine (192.168.1.100)

I manually set the IP address and Gateways and such on the computers and used the DNS servers that my ISP had given me. When I restarted the network I could surf the outside internet fine. Everything seemed to be working

I read about Apache and how to run it and make sure it is running correctly. Everything looks fine.

-I ran /sbin/httpd to start Apache

On my windows machine I went to http://my.ip.address and the Apache page that says it was loaded correctly came up. I thought everything was hunky dory. When I went to update the index.html to display my simple site (just HTML) it appeared to work also, but as I edited the .html file to change it and refreshed the browser on the windows machine the router quit doing anything. I couldn't Ping anything inside the network or outside. I have to unplug the router and plug it back in to get it working again.

Has anyone had problems like this with a linksys router? Could some settings in Apache be killing it?

I'm open to suggestions... Thanks in advance.

Hmm, I'm going to be going with a setup almost identical to this in the next few weeks (win2k, RH 7.1 and Linksys router through cable) so I'm interested in seeing what other people have to say about this problem as well.

I'm currently running the same router, as well as apache on my mandrake 8.1 box. I've never experienced anything like that before, just had the administration password changed on the router at random once or twice.

Which version of the firmware are you using on the linksys? If you're not already i suggest upgrading to at least 1.39 it seems to have most of the gliches worked out by then.

Also fire up the admin tools for your router and watch what ports are being used when you start apache. You can also try DMZ-ing your linux machine and starting apache see if that makes a difference.
