ok right now I have a PNY nVIDIA Geforce4 MX440 AGP video card with the corect drivers loaded from nvidia.com, and all configured and whatnot. i just ordered a new video card from PNY, a GeForce FX 5200 AGP, now can I just shutdown, pop in the new card, boot up and be fine, or is some more configuration necessary, post-install?
Running Fedora Core 1, KDE Desktop

I've done this, went from a GeForce256 -> Geforce 3 ti 200 -> Geforce 5200 -> GeForce 4 ti 4800 with no driver problems. Of course there were some updates over that time span, but generally they should be good, heck, my XF86Config in Gentoo still says it's a GeForce 3 and it works great!
Yes, the GeForce 4 was an upgrade from the 5200, the 5200 was a downgrade to the GeForce 3!!!
Gotta read the fine print of *budget hardware* next time
Brother likes it though, it was a good upgrade to his Radeon 7600 :)

As long as you're using a recent version of nVidia's drivers, you ought to have no problems at all.
I think the FX chips started being supported in driver ??? 4349 ???
They are supported in 4363 or 4496, if you have either of those.
