ChBg and GNOME, desktop doesn't change

I am trying to get ChBg to work with GNOME so I can have a dynamic desktop. However, when I have it set at "Run in desktop background (root) window" it doesn't show up. But, when I open GNOME Terminal, which is set to be transparent, it does not show the wallpaper that I can see, but the one that ChBg is setting. I think, for some reason, the GNOME bg is "blocking" the root background, and I don't know how to get rid of it.

Any ideas?

(I'm running Mandrake 9.1, by the way)
