Hi peeps I`m a total newbie to linux:D
I have installed slackware and am now trying to get my isp to connect.

AT the moment it rings the number but then it says start pppd and seems to freeze. Then I get the following message

Timeout expired while waiting for the PPP interface to come up.

I`m not sure what to do to solve this.

TO set up the connection all i have done is click on kppp then new then I put in the phone number and username and password. Is there anything else I should have done?

please help :D

What is the authentication setting for it? You aren't trying to connect to AOL or MSN are you?

You can change the timeouts if you need to.

There is one under the Device tab and one under the Misc tab. Just slide the slider all the way over. I ran into this on mine once because my connection is so slow.

It may be your ISP though. There are some that don't like Linux for software reasons.

Hope that helps.

:D :D :D :D

The only settings that I have put in when I set it up are the phone number and the user name/password.

The isp I`m using is PLUS net.

I dont know what the authentification settings are.
