gDesklets refuses to work, anyone else have luck/trouble?

it looks so pretty, but everytime i try and run it, it tells me:

You need a recent version of PyGTK to run this program.
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/local/bin/gdesklets", line 4, in ?
from main import HOME
File "/usr/local/share/gdesklets/main/__init__.py", line 50, in ?
import gnome.ui
ImportError: No module named gnome.ui


I suspect that this is because i build one of the deps incorrectly... can anyone who got it to work identify my problem? perhaps just list of the versions of libgtkhtml, libzvt, pygtk, pyorbit, and gnome-python they are using...(i believe those are the tarballs i downloaded for this program)

I run slackware too and I have the same problem I compiled the dep it told me too and it still gave me the same error.

sorry i didn't post back here with the solution...

basically, i had to uninstall all of the required packages, and then go back and run ./configure with --prefix=/usr... found the answer at this thread...

does that answer your question?

I used gentoo and just emerged it. Try irc.gimp.org #gdesklets (there is a nice faq in the title: http://gurb.ton.tut.fi/~tkoskine/gdesklets/faq.html)

BTW, gdesklets is definetely worth it, I just emerged a bunch of random sensors, and started playing with them, and my desktop looks pretty amazing (will put up a new screenshot in the screenshots post when I set up kahakai tomorrow)
