I've got Mandrake setup and running on a second partion on my hard drive, everything seems to be working except for my mouse. I've tried all the different settings for the mouse, and I just can't get it to work. It's a Logitech 3 button mouse.

My problem is when I load windows 98 it takes forever to load now, like 10 to 15 minutes. Also if I try to open Windows Explorer it takes about 5 minutes to open. I'm thinking this problem has to deal with windows trying to read the linux partition. I just wanted to know if there is a way to stop windows from doing this. From what I've read others have had success with setting up a dual boot machine.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks,

Windows doesn't even bother trying to read a Linux partition. It can't. As far as it's concerned, Linux does not exist. (Kind of like Bill Gates is hoping for in real life.)

I'm not sure what the problem is. The long bootup time may be a result of Lilo waiting for you to choose what OS you want to boot up in. I don't know...

LILO works just fine. Windows for some stupid reason is trying to read the drive that has linux on it.

I've fdisked the linux partition and re-installed linux 3 times now. Linux seems to be fine. Stupid windows just has a heart attack now. This even happens when I try to save something. I don't understand why this is happening either.

I'm thinking I might just do lnx4win until I can figure out how to fix this. That seemed to work when I tried it the first time.

What kind of mouse do you have ? USB or ps/2. In any case, is your linux partition on c: ? And have you written lilo to the mbr ? I think it`s just one of the many windows problems :D
But a little more info may help.

If you installed Mandrake on its own partition, then there is no way Windows would be trying to read it. Windows can't see linux partitions so like said above, to windows they don't even exist. So I really doubt that has anything to do with Windows slowing down. Are there any other problems you have noticed?

Please do not crosspost as it's not necessary. We can see all the posts in all the forums.

Besides, it's not really fair to others that get 1 post and 1 chance.

Thank-you

Lnx4win will make the windows run even slower.

This is what I did. I have Linux on a separate hard drive from my Windows. When i want to use Linux I just put that hard drive in.(hot swap) and for windows I use a different hard drive.

It might be that Lnx4win makes linux run slower, either way you won't get peak performance from doing the Lnx4win.
