PhpMyAdmin instalation

Hello evrybody!

I am here to beg your help, evry info you can give is good!:
Here goes my problem:

I have installed Apache, Php, MySQL and so far evything works fine. When i want to install the package PhpMyAdmin-2.5.4-php.tar.gz, shell says this:
gunzip: phpMyAdmin-2.5.4-php.tar.gz: not in gzip format

And when i try to install from the rpm some old version(2.3.2), where i need to change the instalation directory, it says:
error: package phpMyAdmin is not relocateable

there is no reason this should make a difference but have you tried:

tar -xvzf phpMyAdmin-2.5.4-php.tar.gz
