hi - im trying to setup a linux file server using samba - have got it on the network - but i want to give out one username and password for everyone - but linux only seems to allow that if that user is logged on from one computer it cannot log on from another - does this mean i HAVE to give seperate username\passwords for everyone or is there a way round this?

thanks

Nope. Just the one should work. At the moment, with a default samba config from swat, I have 5 machines connected to a file server, all playing MP3's, all using the same username/password.
