Using RedHat7. Ok, I finally figured out (with a little help from here) how to get logged onto my ISP as root using Kppp. I figured I'd better try and make a user before I screwed something with a typing error. RH7 uses (apparently) the command line useradd which I muddled thru and finally created earl1. When I get logged in as earl1 and try to use Kppp to sign on to ISP, RH7 wants the root password to let me proceed. How to I tell it that earl1 is priviliged to use Kppp?

Next time try the
adduser
program as opposed to the useradd, it's better.

adduser Joe
will do everything for you, useradd is more tedious.

I get the same prompt when I log in using KDE. But when I use gnome it works without root permission.

Go figure.

Try rp3-config and
rp3

If you use those under KDE they work fine for all user without any root password.

Thanks hungarian! I'll give that a try.

It wasn't something that bugged me too much. I just used it as an excuse to work under both KDE and gnome. Can't get into too much of a rut.

hungarian,
Thanks for replying. RedHat7 doesn't seem to have the 'less tedious' version. 'man adduser' gets me definitions for useradd. RunningLinux page 157 tells me "some Lnux systems provide the command-line useradd instead of adduser. If you're stuck with useradd, see the manual pages". Yup, wish I'd dont more research before buying my Linux distro. But, for a non-Unix type person, I guess the casual, ongoing picking of the RH7 scab while doing most of my computering in Win98 provides entertainment.
