I had sendmail installed when I installed my OS from CDs; at one point I tried to replace it with another MTA a few months ago, but was unsuccessful.
At this point, I'm trying to get it reinstalled, because a PHP package I'm setting up may require a MTA (right now it does not send out new account or password emails that it should).
I'm not getting any error messages, and I have tried sending test messages from sendmail to an email account of mine, but I get no mail or error messages.
I'd really appreciate an explanation or tutorial link on how to set up sendmail, because as of now I've only found really obscure HOWTOs.

Sendmail: 8.10.12 (tar.gz or RPM)
CPU: Pentium II-233mHz
RAM: 64MB
PHP Package: Black Nova
