Ha, back again in my favorite slack :)

Well, I decided to move to Slackware for good, so I wanted anything to be perfect :P

And my problem is with sound. I have one major and one lighter problem. The big deal is that I can play mp3s with mpg123 alright but ANY X mp3 player just crashes. KDE plays its sounds alright but nothing else but crash by media player xmms and winamp. (winamp was expected to crash but the others?),

My Kernel is 2.4.12 compiled by me (maybe that's the problem :) and the Sound Card is Sound Blaster PCI 16, which uses a chip called ES 1371.

Summary, card is recognized by kernel 2.4.12, mpg123 works just fine, but any media player for X crashes. KDE sounds and startup music work just fine.

Any suggestions?

My small problem is about midi files. They don't seem to play at all. What do I add in modules conf etc? I tried to follow the instructions from a howto but still no midi.

Thanks in advance,
fatesWARM

Not sure why your aps are crashing but the solution might be to link file types to them if they are not. I like the timidity player and instruments for midi files, you will probably have to download these.

We need some more info. I also downloaded KDE 2.2.x from Slackware as an update(they had 2.1.x on the normal distro). Problems started after I added that.

SO: Is there a way some KDE apps or conf files to block X apps from playing wave and mp3 files?

BTW, thanks for the midi suggestions.

I don't know if this helps, but with RealPlayer i keep having problems when artsd is up and running. So while i'm not sure how much artsd helps KDE (KDEs system beeps afaik) i usually just send SIGHUP to it.
