I have a Dell Poweredge 4300 Server that I'm trying to install slackware on but I keep running into problems. Basically I can choose to boot the raid.s kernel and it recognizes the raid array but doesnt recognize the Cd-Rom because it's on a scsi channel also but on the on board card. If I choose the adaptec.s kernal it shows the 2 on board adaptec controllers, but no raid array for the hard drives. So I'm trying to figure out a way to get the Cd-Rom and raid array to both be recognized to install slackware. Thanks for any help.

i don't have much idea about RAID but why don't u try using a bootdisk
http://www.slackware.com/install/bootdisk.php
i can see there that a megaraid.s supports both RAID and SCSI but i don't know whether it takes care of your requirements.
someone else with more experience will have more suggestions.

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry it took so long for me to get back on but I was moving to a new apartment and just getting everything setup. Well I tried getting slack to work on it but I couldnt get it, so I tried Redhat 9, Mandrake 9.1, and the new Fedora, and they all detected the SCSI and Raid setup and installed fine. I left it with Fedora which I dont like as much as slackware but it will do for a Samba, Apache, and Sendmail server. I also am using the Mandrake MNF on another box as my router and it's pretty awesome. Went to DSL reports and did security checks and always get a "0" score which is perfect. The web interface they have is nice to check up on my machines from work.

I had a similar problem and it's actually not that hard to do.
I recommend you boot the RAID kernel and then download the drivers for your adaptec card for Linux. Then you can compile the drivers as modules and insert them into the running kernel with the modprobe command.
This is how I managed to get my SCSI card running under Linux.
If you need more help, just post back.
