Hi guys, I have an 80 gig hd and a 40 gig hd, my windows is on 40 gig hd which is /dev/hda and the suse on 80 gig hd /dev/hdb
I was just installing it and I got a kernel panic error with something like VFS xxx
I think I configured my lilo boot config wrong, could you guys tell me what to do? I've looked on various websites and I still don't understand. Thanks

Can you try booting from a SuSE CD and mounting your root filesystem?
If you can do that, you can go back in an edit /etc/lilo.conf properly, chroot to the mounted partition and run "lilo" and all should then work. Since I don't use either lilo or SuSE, I can't be more specific.
Sorry.

here is the relavant section to my /etc/lilo.conf
# Linux bootable partition config begins
#image = /boot/vmlinuz
root = /dev/hdb3
label = Slackware9.1
read-only # Non-UMSDOS filesystems should be mounted read-only for checking
# Linux bootable partition config ends
# DOS bootable partition config begins
other = /dev/hda1
label = Windows2000
table = /dev/hda
# DOS bootable partition config ends
make the changes to be relavant to your system, and then run /sbin/lilo to make the conf file your boot info...
like je_fro said, boot from the install disc from whatever distro you installed... most will have a rescue option... that will allow you to change the file and try again

thanks for the replies, you're talking to a complete linux idiot and newb. So how would I mount my "root" filesystem etc. Sorry this is my first time using suse and I heard it was a good distro for beginners.

Ok, I tried rescue, and I never even designated a login when installing Suse and it tells me to login. So now I cannot do anything, but just install suse all over again and when I get to the step where I have to edit the lilo config I will be lost again :( Can you just tell me what to add so I can use windows?
is it just
other = /dev/hda1
label = Windows
table = /dev/hda
Thanks

It definitely should have asked to create users. I think you may have missed that part. If you have time, try a re-install. Practice makes perfect!
:D
If you just want to boot windoz, boot a win98 floppy and do:
fdisk /mbr
And you're back to using the winBootloader.
