From first hearing MS's plans to use activation for windows XP, I was shocked. The money they get must come from companies like Hewlett Packard, IBM, or Gateway, who by licences by the hoards, not by retail.
I would have never had a clue, except for a foreign exchange student from Macedonia. If what I'm told is correct, and my thought that there are many places with laws that function like Macedonia's, MS's plan does make a little sense.
It seems that Goverment laws on copyright are a little lax, as they do not exist. Basicly everything you buy is a burned copy. If this is true, then by this activation scheme, they couldn't pirate windows anymore. I could beleive most of Asia functioning this way.
I still think that this will only hurt MS, but it at leasts points to there being a idea behind such a crazy system.
I don't care, I just ordered my first 2 linux games, And I've been without windows for several weeks now.Whatever MS plans, it won't include me. :D
Oops, forgot tech support. :(
