I'm having a problem burning a DVD. I'm using the following:

Xcdroast 0.98 alpha 14, cdrecord 2.00.3, mkisofs 2.0.3, growisofs 5.13

When I try to burn a DVD using Xcdroast if get the following error:
(the error is in the call to cdrecord.prodvd)

Waiting for reader process to fill input buffer ...
input buffer ready.
Starting new track at sector: 0
cdrecord.prodvd: Input/output error. write_g1: scsi sendcmd: no error

Sense flags: Blk 0 (not valid)
cmd finished after 5.283s timeout 100s
cdrecord.prodvd: A write error occured.
cdrecord.prodvd: Please properly read the error message above.

This error seems to indicate a problem with the media. Searching the net, people with the same errors are saying that either the media is bad or the Burner is going bad. They also say the maybe cleaning the burner might work.
My burner is brand new, so is the media. In fact, I just had this same burner installed on another machine, using DVD disks from the same package, and I was able to burn with no problems. I have installed the same software on this new machine and its configured the same.

Any ideas?

I've seen quite a few threads posted here on the same or similiar issue.

Have a look through these JL forum search results for 'scsi sendcmd' (http://justlinux.com/forum/search.php?s=&action=showresults&searchid=795449&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending) to see if any relate to your particular problem.

I made an earlier post on this issue I'm having with a DVD/CD burner. First of all here's my info:

R.H. 8.0, Xcdroast 0.98 alpha 14, cdrecord 2.01a12 (cdrecord.prodvd), mkisofs 2.0.3, growisofs 5.13

Using Xcdroast, when I have a CD-R disk in the drive, it successfully burns the selected files. It chooses the correct driver based on the media type. When I put a DVD-R disc in the drive and try to burn the same files I get the following:

Calling: /usr/local/lib/xcdroast-0.98/bin/xcdrwrap CDRECORDPRODVD dev= "2,1,0" gracet

It chooses a different driver: generic SCSI-3/mmc-3 DVD+R driver (mmc_dvdplusr), but I get the error as shown above, telling me there's something wrong with the media. In my research for this error, I found others that are using this same driver and they're burning DVD's with no problem, but here's some interesting information from cdrecord (or cdrecord.prodvd):

(only a portion of the output)

Is there another driver that I could use? Any ideas?

You will notice that I merged the thread you posted yesterday into this once since they are both on the same problem.

Did you not find anything in those search results I posted? Nothing at all that could possibly give you a possible solution?

the issue is your DRIVE doesn't support writing to DVD-R disks.

If you look at the specs for the NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A on NEC's website, you will notice that the drive can only burn DVD+R/RW & CD-R/RW disks, not DVD-R/RW disks.

Here is the link to the NEC website with their specs.

I'm sorry, I am using DVD+R discs, NOT DVD-R as I indicated in my previous posts, but you are right, the burner only supports DVD+R/RW & CD-R/RW disks.

I was able to burn a DVD+R disc with this SAME burner on another linux box, just a couple of days ago. I just can't seem to get it to work on this other box now.
