Floppy question:

I don't know if this is a linux problem or not, but my floppy drive has suddenly gone from a floppy drive to a removable disk drive. I'm running win98 and Mandrake 7.2. On both I can't access any disks put into it. When my computer starts up I get this message that says "The following configurations were updated: Diskette Drives" or something similar to that. I went into my BIOS and the floppy drive was disabled and I enabled it. I got the same problem when I restarted my computer. The error I get in linux is:

floppy0: floppy timeout called
FAT bread failed
floppy: Input/Output error.

Xwindows question:

I'm not sure if these problems are similar or not but when I log onto my machine under the console mode I type startx to go to xwindows. I get the following error message:

Fatal server error:
no screens found

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages. This can be found in the log file "var/log/XFree86.0.log".

X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).

Here is a link to a copy of the XFree86.0.log:

I really have no idea what happened. I swear my computer worked one minute, I took it home over the weekend and now it doesn't work. Really odd. Anyone have any ideas?

For the floppy, check the connections for the drive. Ribbon cable and power.

I'm certainly not a expert on X, but I had a look at your error log and the only (EE) line I saw was

(EE) I810(0): Given depth (15) is not supported by i810 driver

You will need to reconfigure X to not use a colordepth of 15. Not sure of what to use for Xfree4.

That worked great on Xwindows! Thanks so much. I think I have to call compaq before I go about opening up my case to check the cables. I'm under this warranty, someone may actually have to drive all the way out here just to do that. :D

Thanks again.
