Hi ! I updated my Suse box from 8.2 to 9.0 . But KDE now really thinks about launching an app. It takes a good 2 secs before anything starts loading from the HD . Booting to the windows manager also takes notably longer while Gnome looks normal .Does anyone else have a similar experience ?

kde / qt is essentially 2 large libs
gnome runs off of a truckload (like 45) different small libs
results kde/qt load slower but then run faster and cleaner
(nothing else to load as they go)
gnome however loads faster and then performs badly
repaints are particularly messy and painful and execution requires searching for and loading small libs.
but gnome does appear or give the illusion of being faster..

Thanx for the reply . I'd like to compile KDE for my system but it looks tough trying to figure out which lib comes first in the process. Anyway I can't use Gnome - just don't like the way it looks - it's all over the place .Really feels strange

Fixed it! It seems something went wrong during my update from 8.2 to 9.0 . I realised it when I logged in as root and KDE started faster and was more responsive as a whole. I created a new user and the results were the same. So I started searching the kde hidden directory in my /home and compared it to those of the new users. Found a bunch of socket entries , cleaned them up and everything was OK . It still feels sluggish but at least is fast off the mark :D

that makes sense..
actually i think kde is getting faster not slower lately.
you could try just erasing the .kde directory in your home dir
and let the wizzard build you a new one next time you start up..
the configs aren't compatible from release to release
