how do i get into a real console from kde? or any other display program.

CTRL + ALT + F7 to get back to KDE.

If you edit /etc/inittab right near the top there should be a line that reads:
id:5:initdefault:

That 5 means boot directly into a GUI (X), which I assume is what's happening. If you change the 5 to a 3, that will put you into the normal console login mode when you reboot. Login, and you'll have a console, and you should be able to run "startx" to get into X from there.

you can also use ctrl+alt+f# where #represent a number from (1 to 6) ctrl+alt+f7 will get you back to gui

To get back to gui, you only need alt F7
