Im new to linux. After surfing the web, ive discovered that linux boxes are the favorite targets for hackers.
With my minimal knowledge, how safe is my just installed drake 8.1
until i figure out ip tables, any help is appreciated

click the control-center icon on you desktop. Then click security, then firewall then click configure or add. If its you first time setting it up you might be prompted to insert a couple of you cd. Answer each question and your done. Presto you own mini-firewall. If your worried about open or seen ports.If you have nmap installed you can check for open ports that way pre firewall then post firewall. It may not be a cure all at least it may add some line of defense

I can't find that in KDE. Is it in Gnome? Or else, is there another downloable firewally?

That control center is only in Mandrake ....
But you can download Bastille Firewall if you want a firewall try www.sourceforge.net (http://www.sourceforge.net) or http://freshmeat.net

afaik bastille is on mandrake
if you use either gnome or kde
go to the configuration menu, select other and click on the mandrake control centre
(the config menu may come under a different guise depending on which menu config you are using
