Does anyone know of any reason why after a completely clean install of Windows 2000 professional why the boot.ini file might be deleted? My user had his PC for 2 weeks without any issues then one day (and each day there after) the user receives an error each morning stating the the boot.ini file is invalid or missing. I have searched for the file and confirmed that all files are displayed, but it is not there.
Does anyone know of a good resource to try and rebuild the boot.ini file?
Thank you for any suggestions you may have.

This is actually a Windows question but anyway, here is my boot.ini from Win XP, it's quite the same as NT and 2000 and I use it to dual boot XP Pro and Slackware Linux 8:
[boot loader]
timeout=999
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WXP
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WXP="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
C:\BOOTSECT.LNX="MoyaLinux"
Avoid whatever is about my 'MoyaLinux' :)
Also make sure that boot.ini is shown by unselecting "hide system files". Then it has to be 'hidden' and 'system' for its properties.
I hope this solves this (simple) problem.

with all respect, but what it does to do with linux? I think most ppl here are not very windows frendly, but i think there is nothing wrong to give a help. Oki, first i never saw the file boot.ini in the win2000, he have another, at least that is what i think. You can try to install all over again. But tell me one think, can you enter in the windows?
Or the error appears after that and you can't enter in windows. Because if he is booting it could mean that is nothing worng with the boot, but some file associated with him. I think so! Try to be some more explicit please.

You are.. wrong. There is a boot ini file. you just have to unselect the annoying MS option of hiding system files in explorer.
Actually, here is a web page describing in detail the Win 2000 boot.ini configuration:
http://www.labmice.net/install/bootini.htm
But anyway, can we close this windows threat please?
