Its is for trying to get businesses to migrate for Unix to Windows. You can't expect businesses to suddenly switch everything at once to Windows, just like we don't expect people to suddenly switch from Windows to Linux. That's why we have projects such as Samba.

I got a copy of SFU 3.0 in the last copy of Linux Magazine I bought. Also in the mag was an ad for SFU that said "Let's Talk". I think it's a positive step. Better if the systems are more compatible instead of more broken standards and all that. Maybe someday they'll make Word and IE a bit more open... I guess I can dream. Various GPL programs are included on the disc. Also included are things like grep, strings, etc. and some NIS/Active Directory crossover stuff. I don't really have a use for any of the things included on the discs as if I want to run Windows I've got Cygwin, GnuWin32 and some other ports of unix programs to w32, but it was fun to test out a piece of MS software that was *nix-ish. Haven't done that since I admined a Xenix box years ago.

M$ has been bending over backwards to appease UNIX fans lately. Started with the W2K ResKit actually, which has all the cryptic UNIX commands some of us have come to loath; so corporate MIS types don't have to learn anything new. After enduring all the insults for a decade, and accusations of being "renegades" on the network, some long time Windows admins see this as nothing less than a stab in the back. If they're going to make Windows more UNIX-like, well, then I might as well switch to UNIX and be done with it.
