As some of you would have noticed, I have been having this same problem for a LONG time. I have tryed everything, e-mailed SuSE but they said "It was outside the installation help or support!"

May Problem is:

Ok.. So i did what i was told. I downloaded gnome-libs-dev... But i am running
suse 7.1 and i couldn't find it anywhere for this os. So i downloaded one from
the redhat ftp for redhat 7 as i thought this would be the most resent.
Anyway, I downloaed the package in .rpm (gnome-libs-dvel-1.2.4-11.i386.rpm)
format and installed it in root... But
before it acctually installs i get a dependancies error... (This is in
KPACKAGE)

gnome-libs
ORBit-devel
imlib-devel
db1-devel

It says these are the dependancies it needs. But the thing I find really
strange is that I know that gnome-libs is installed. I then downloaed the
other packages from the server but everytime i install a new one of them
it needs 2 or 3 more dependancies.. As you can probally tell this is forming
a tree and before long I will be doing alot of downloading on my little 56k.

I looked on my SuSE cd's... And it wasn't on there. I then looked on the site
and nothing...

I have tried and tried.. Read and asked and after a week of the same problem
you can imagion it gets rather frustrating.

So does anyone have any ideas to my problem. Like i said, i am using SuSE 7.1 with the 2.4 kernel.

Try rpm --rebuilddb (I think that's the right command), this will rebuild your database (it might be something like --refresh). If that doesn't work, then I don't have any other ideas right now.

This is probably not a wise thing to do, but I am not a smart kinda fella. If this were my box I would install Ximian Gnome by using their installer. I know Ximians site says SuSE 7.0 is supported, but nothing about 7.1. Unless I knew there were problems it is what I would do.

This is not a production box is it?

A fairly new install I would guess.

Since Ximian dosen't say 7.1 is supported things may break and make your system unusable.

Open a terminal window--> su--> passwd

lynx -source http://go-gnome.com/ | sh

May work, may not..... just a suggestion.
