Here is my question.......
Why is there 7 enteries for [httpd] all with user nobody?
there all also enteries for [mingetty] and [identd].

why are there more than one?

can someone please help me with this or at least point me in the direction of where i should look.

IN apache's case it's the child processes that get spawned upon it's startup (owned by uid=nobody),if you llok in httpd.conf you'll see a line referencing to them (5 is the default)...

In mingetty, ident cases, first it's your console logins (tty1 thru tty6,see etc/inittab) the other is the identification process that your clients send to various servers (irc,ftp,ssh...etc)

This behavior is normal and there's nothing to worry about.Hope this explains a bit.

the reason apache, or httpd, has more than one process running is because it is probably runnning as a standalone server, meaning its connection requests are not handled by inetd. hence, when httpd initially starts, it starts numerous child processes to handle any inital connection requests it may receive, since the inital number of requests could be one or many.
