I am currently running Debian Potato. I have my disc nice and partitioned, and I want to install redhat over my existing potato. I have to use text mode, because my monitor is from that dark ages, and when the partitioning parts of the install come up, it wants to create an entirely new partition table with either disc druid, or fdisk. How do I tell the install program that I don't want it touching my partition tables, and that it should use the Linux native, and Linux swap that are already there.

I started with slink, moved to corel, and then to potato. They all asked if I would like to use the existing partition table. It doesn't seem to be an option on this new-fangled redhat thing. Am I just missing something?

thanks in advance...

IF you like the way your disk is partitioned already, then just use fdisk

It'll ask you what drive to partition, select hda, then look at the help(type m) I think p will print current partition scheme. If you like it then just exit fdisk, q... and move to the next step.

That should do it....

Good luck

Thank you mychl.

I did try doing that, but, I just went to fdisk, and then (q)uit out of fdisk as soon as it started, then it would kick me into disc druid. I will try printing out the disc info and then see if it lets me go from there. I can't do that now, though, because I actually need the computer so that I can do 'real' work, with my old fashioned hand tools before I can return to trying out this spiffy new redhat thing. (Axe? What's that? /me use large stone!)
;)
I will post the results later.

If you are getting to disk druid, it should be showing the existing partitions. Then just do F3/Edit to tell it you want to name hda1 '/', or whatever, and then the same for the others. I believe that RedHat's text mode installer defaults to reformatting all the existing partitions *except* /home, and it gives you a confirmation dialog immediately after disk druid so you can select to not format any or all or any combo of your partitions as you please.
