ya you gotta do a little better than that, what's the movie player(s) in question here? What distro is this machine running?

1) Go here

http://cambuca.ldhs.cetuc.puc-rio.br/xine/

download & istall the w32codec-0.52-1.i386.rpm....

2) Open xine.... Settings > Setup > codec (insert the path)

that's all

enjoy.....

Find out the path with the following command.....

rpm -ql w32codec

.....generally the path should be.....

/usr/lib/win32

what do u mean?????

.....uhhhh, oddly the xine will play a video (no sound), if it is a .asx file.....

have u tried 2 play a diff. .asx or is it just one file??? what audio drive r u using???

It might be an idea to just delete the ~/.xine (in your home) dir & do the settings again....

Another thing u can do is download the following to a new dir & install with:

rpm -Uvh *.rpm
