I tried dual Win98/Redhat7, now I want to try
XP/Redhat 7.

Is there anything special that I should know before I start?

Thanks

Depends if you want to use Lilo from Redhat or the XP bootloader to dualboot.

If you want to use the XP loader, then make sure you install Lilo in the Redhat root/boot partition and not the mbr.

Redhat 7 will have a older version of Lilo that doesn't support booting past the 1024 cylinder, so it's probably advisable to just use the XP loader for both operating systems.

I'd suggest getting Red Hat 7.2 rather then living with the lilo in 7.0. There are significant security updates and major feature updates between the releases. Gnome 1.4 and KDE 2.2.1 for a start.

Well, for me it doesn't matter which loader do I have, LILO or XP bootloader (never heard of). If I install lilo in root partition to keep the XP loader, will XP recognize my RedHat?

I believe that XP uses the same boot.ini as W2K does, so it should work.

I haven't tried it myself, though you may find other threads posted here that may help or a good old Google search.

No problem. Just find the official HOWTO called i think.. WinNT-Loader-HOWTO. Windows XP uses exactly the same boot loader as nt and 2k so you won't have a problem. I don't, loading WinXPpro and Slackware 8 on the same machine.

(Actually xp is 2k with more programs, according to xp beta docs(the final docs have been choped off :))

Well, I think that helped, find the HOWTO.

My thanks to all of you guys,
I just needed your "Don't worry, go ahead and do it".

Screwing my computer is not the issue (I've done it a couple of times now :D )

Someone just posted http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=58 which should help you with the XP bootloader.

Win2K uses the NTLDR, and so does XP.
