I'm setting up Debian Linux 3.0 for the first time.
I've installed the base kernal.
Now I'm onto the X window system.

I'm using a ViewSonic G790 19" 1997 monitor

So I've got to the HOrizontal and Vertical Scan Frequency rate Question.

Do I use the Chart called FACTORY PRESET Timings? and derive a Frequency range from those numbers?

Which would be:

Horiz.
31.47-93.75kHz

Vert.
70.00-85.03Hz

or Make them to be:

Horiz:
30.00-95kHz

and

Vert:
70.00-86.00Hz

If I make the number range even a little larger say by 1 more counting number would that hurt?

And when I think I have it figured out:

I find this in the specs page:
Input Signal

Video Syncc:

and then I find this:

f (sub H) :30-95 Hz, f (sub V) :50-180 Hz

I notice that the Vert range for the Chart would be 86.00 Hz
and the Vert Range for the Specs Information page would be 180 Hz.

Sounds like 180 Hz would be the right number.. since thats what I've read.

I just wanted to make sure that sounded right.

Also what if I am supposed to use the chart.. would I round down and round up to the nearest whole number?

thanks.....!!!!!

I ALWAYS use the numbers provided by the manufacturer.
Type them in exactly like they are published.

When I can't seem to find that information, I boot up Knoppix and copy off a copy of the /etx/X11/XF86Config-4 file. Use this information to help tweek your configuration.

Good Luck,
