Hey all,
Was wondering what kind of performance boost I'd get from upgrading my kernel from 2.2.18 to 2.4.x?
Do the 2.4.x kernels automatically allow for ext3 partitions?
Is there any particular 2.4.x to avoid? Any that seem particularly stable?
Thanks,
Bill

I would think the kernels get a little better with each release. You would have to judge for yourself on your particular hardware.

I wasn't too impressed with the 2.4.9 kernel. I like the 2.4.10 though. No problems at all. At least so far.

I don't know that you will get any "performance boost". Upgrading to 2.4.XX kernel will give you the option of a JOURNALED FILE SYSTEM, which can make it easier to recover from self-inflicted disasters (file corruption, boo-boos, etc), along all the other improvements. But, the last word on the subject, that I have read, says that the ext3 journaled part is still beta. Yer pays yer money an' yer takes yer chances. :p
