I loaded the Xchat IRC client. And when I logged off as root and attempted to log back on normal.

It cannot see the graphical kde2 login screen anymore.

It flickers like it's gonna display but it's all black.

Now, I am a windows guy, how do I fix this ?

thanks

I don't think xchat is related to this.

Sounds like your XF86Config file got corrupted. Do the following:

On boot up, when you see Lilo: type Linux 1 and press enter then enter your password when prompted. Once you've taken care of that; type init 2 and press enter. Now login as root and then execute the following command: vi /etc/X11/XF86Config

Make sure you have a sheet of paper and a pen/pencil to write down the contents of your XF86Config file. Now that you've taken care of that; comeback to LNO and post the contents of your XF86Config file to get more help.

Note: I'm assuming that you're running X server version 4.x

What distro are you running?
