I can't get one thing about the partition for Linux. I have on my computer hard drive 20 Gig.

The partition is:

MountPoint type size
/ ext2 15Gig
swap swap 400Mb
/home/win2000 FAT 4Gig

As I undestand that all Linux partitions MUST be under / or under root, but why swap is not under the root(/)

Thanks in advance

I believe it is because it is wiped clean each time the computer is rebooted. If it is separate, valuable data would not be accidently erased. There is more info in the howtos and man pages on your computer.
