I don't see anything wrong with announcing there's a new release, and whare to tell BitTorrent to get the ISOs from.

Oh, just thought I'd mention, Mandrake didn't decide to include the kernel source in any of these disks, as far as I can see anyway. But you can pick up the source RPM of any of the Raw tree mirrors, or just compile your own kernel :D

ah, i dislike bit torrent, what port does it use? that may help it.

By default, BitTorrent listens on port 6881, trying incrementially higher ports if it's unable to bind, and gives up after 6889 (the port range is configurable).

funkytaz10,
The first link is not a link. I cut and pasted and it says "no such directory". Thought you might want to know.
It looks like a link though. Strange.

I've just checked the FTP site and it seems that the ISO's are 9.2rc2 CD1/2&3 which if Im not mistaken ( ) are still the test versions. I don't think that Mandrake are releasing the ISO's for the new release for a while yet. I believe that the mandrake club members get first bite of the cherry when it comes to that!
Might be wrong though - if anyone does know anywhere that you can get hold of ISO images of the new release let us know!
Cheers,
Jme.

they're suppost to release it when they release 9.2 boxed, but suppostily the bit torrent ones are actual 9.2 iso's....can't get it to work though. oh well, i can wait a little bit (besides, my new hdd hasn't come yet, tuesday) so i'm fine. you can always download it now (not iso) off their mirrors and do an FTP install or network.

DSwain; Well, I have installed about 3 times now. It won't boot at all now. Everytime I install it gets worse. This thing is starting to really pi$$ me off.
I'm going to dive off the deep end and install over 9.1 deleting everything but /home partition.
If this crashes my system, I'm going to France and bet the crap out of somebody with a Linux manual. I'm going to hit them with the WORD.
I hope I'll be back in a bit.
Crap, I'll lose my Gentoo and LFS again.
Can't win.
Later, I hope

I got it to upgrade. I had to change my underwear though. Got right to the end and hung up during upgrade. I hit reset and watched it boot then turn black, and sit there.
I'll give you when big hint.
Change driver form "nvidia" to "nv" first!!!!
I rebooted to failsafe, after a bit of "You didn't shut down properly" crap, I got into failsafe and used the VI, oh God.
After that I typed in startx and GUI came alive.
Now for the rant. You knew this was coming huh?
The stupid thing deleted my Kmail. What the heck is that crap? @#&%^ $*%&^* #&#^$^8 #^#%@^
No File Manager as root. Where did that goto? Stupid? I think so. I use that more than anything except Mozilla, Kmail and Kppp. What are they thinking? #@^ #@*& #^$%$
Clock is STILL screwed up. Nothing new there. Always four hours off. Crap.
I have only been in here about 20 minutes. I may go back to 9.1. This is not better, just different.
End of rant. You didn't know that was coming though.
One good thing. The fonts and stuff look a LOT smoother. I mean a LOT. Even the little print is better. Yes, this is the same monitor and resolution.
Any questions? Sorry about the @#%$^ @^#%$ stuff. I'm a bit pi$$ed still. I'm getting better. I created a link to File Manager - Super User with root privledges. That helped a bit.
If I have lost my Gentoo, I WILL be back. I may burn this forum to the ground with that rant. Lots of @#% &^# !&^$ then.

Well, at least you got it running. I've always been leary of "upgrading" any OS. I have always just deleted and installed from scratch, habit I've gotten into from my Windoze days. Even if I bought the "upgrade" version I ALWAYS repartitioned my drive and installed from scratch. The ONE time that I upgraded was a DISASTER so from then on I just reinstalled. I had hoped that I wouldn't have to do that with MDK 9.2 (I hope to get my CD's in soon). The problem that this creates in Linux is if you have any other distro's installed you have to make sure you use the same partitioning scheme as before, i.e. if you had /, /swap and /home you have to make sure you set up 3 partitions when you reinstall so that it doesn't screw up the other distros (I'm right on this assumption, ain't I?) That is more of a question than a statement of fact on my part anyway.
I hate the loss of the "File Manager as Super User" as well. I had installed rc2 and noticed it not being there anymore. Please advise on how you "created a link to File Manager - Super User with root privledges", I would greatly appreciate that.
Anyway when my MDK 9.2 gets here my plan is to get rid of windoze completely. I have Win2K on my PC now but I use it all of once or twice a month so it's just taking up valuable real estate on my HD and not being used much. Matter of fact the only reason I have it on there right now is a couple of games that my wife plays that I can't find a replacement for in Linux (slot type casino games). She has discovered "Poker" and BlackJack so maybe she can deal. If nothing else I can create a single 2 or 3 gig partition with WinME on it just for that purpose alone. If anyone knows of any casino/slot games for Linux I would like to hear from you.
Dang, it's 8 in the moring here and I'm just rambling. Anyway, after I get MDK 9.2 going I'll reinstall Slack 9.1 and get the Dropline Gnome package going on it. Then I think I'm going to tackle Gentoo again. This time rather than trying to "push" myself to get it up and going "right now", I'm just going to look at it as a work in progress and do things in stages.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just rambling,
MMYoung

Like I said in an earlier post, man my hat's off to you. I've never tackled one of the "manual" install distro's (as I call them) before and it seemed to be a rather daunting task. That, I think, was the problem. I was trying to do "too much, too quick". I'm going to slow down the process this time and work at it a little bit at a time. If I'm correct once you get Gentoo up and running there is no need for the "upgrading" to the next version, just emerge the new stuff and your done.
BTW, any tips or hints you could pass my way would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
MMYoung

Well it is getting better. I like the look just hate the stuff that is missing. New Mozilla too. :D
Creating that link to File Manager. You right click on desktop and select create new then 'Link to application'. In the box put in File Manager - Super user or whatever you want. Click the 'execute' tab then click the button to pick the command. Browse to /usr/sbin and select konqueror. Click OK. Then in the execute tab again put a x next to 'run as different user'. Then fill in root. Click OK. Oh, you can change the icon to by clicking on it and searching for the file cabinet thing then click OK.
I also made a link to Konsole. Same thing just that you may have to install Konsole. It deleted mine. Sorry rat. It is in the same directory too. Run as root too.
I will say it looks much cleaner and easier to read. They made some great changes to those fonts and such.
The problem I had with it hanging during upgrade was that I didn't want it to mess with my MBR. I was trying to make it skip the bootloader part. You may not care if it does or not. The other problem during the boot was that I forgot to change the video driver form "nvidia" to "nv". When you change the kernel you have to reinstall the driver. I forgot. My fault there.
If you plan to re-install and you have a seperate /home partition then hit F1 and type in expert. Later in the install it will ask you want partitions you want to format. Just make sure that the /home partition is not checked. It will change a few files for the new stuff but it will not erase your Documents and most settings and such.
Makes the world a bit easier that way
Gentoo: I have that too. It's not that bad really. Just read the how to a couple of times and mark the commands you will need to enter and go through it step by step.
Now to get yahoo messenger to work.

Oh, since you are prepared to start over, why not try the upgrade. At worst you will have to reinstall like you were going to anyway.

hm, well i may take it for a spin, who knows. I don't like upgrading OS's personally myself, it just leaves behind many confusing settings and makes it tough to work with. Fresh it'll be for me though. One question though, anybody try RC2 with a Radeon 7500? i never had luck with it, my video would just stop responding, so no luck with that : / and if that's the case, i'll wait until i get new video or try the next version from 9.2. The idea of better fonts sounds great though. I did once make it look very good though by installing Windows fonts onto it, that made a huge difference.

It's run from a terminal emulator (Konsole, aterm, Eterm, xterm, rxvt, or heck, even ctrl-alt-f2 if you have DISPLAY set properly).

Have been running mandrake 9.2 for about 5 days now seems fine to me. Did a fresh install though, don't like up-grading as something always seems to mess up or goes missing. But overall nice o/s. Happy with it!

just did a fresh install last night too.
nothing spectacular about 9.2. more like bug fixes. gaim 0.7 is incompatible. didn't want to install a bunch of 9.1 legacy packages so i went back to gaim 0.68 which is what comes with 9.2.
compile it from a tarball, .71 works fine that way...or should at least.
